Description:

Summary

Barry University is currently accepting applications for two Reference & Instruction Librarian full time positions at the Main Campus.

 

Work as part of a team to support information literacy and to deliver reference, instruction, and research services. This position is responsible for managing, organizing, evaluating and disseminating research information. It also provides library support to members of Barry University’s academic community, including students, researchers, faculty and staff at all Barry locations.

 

 

Position requires daily, nightly and weekend reference rotations. 

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Work as part of a team to support information literacy and to deliver reference, instruction, and research services. This position is responsible for managing, organizing, evaluating and disseminating research information. It also provides library support to members of Barry University’s academic community, including students, researchers, faculty and staff at all Barry locations.
  • This position serves as liaison for assigned Schools, Departments and academic subject areas. It is also responsible for developing specialized research tools and collections, as well as for other functions such as organizing exhibits and lectures, writing grants and creating presentations and programs.    

 

Promotes the delivery of library services by:

 

  • Collaborating with faculty who are proposing new courses to evaluate existing and needed library resources.
  • Collaborating with faculty to integrate library resources into their course assignments.
  • Creating, updating and managing electronic or print information resources.
  • Collaborating with faculty in collection development in subject content areas.
  • Reviewing donations in assigned subject areas.

 

Supports the Reference Department operations by:

 

  • Staffing the Reference desk and providing virtual reference services by participating in the daily, nightly, and weekend reference rotation.
  • Participating in development and enforcement of Reference Department and general library policies and procedures.
  • Assisting patrons with basic technical questions including printer, scanner and copier issues.
  • Preparing regular activity reports.
  • Providing individual research consultations to students and faculty, both in person and online.

 

Serves the University and Library by:

  • Organizing special programs and services that support the mission of the Library and the
    University, including writing grants and organizing exhibits, lectures and presentations.
  • Participating in University, Division, and Library committees.
  • Reporting to colleagues on committee activities.

 

Ensures professional growth by:

  • Actively participating in continuing education training.
  • Attending and presenting library related programs, conferences, professional meetings, classes, etc.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant professional developments in the library sector.
  • Participating in Library professional committees, organizations or networks.

 

 


Education:

Qualifications/Requirements

 

  • A Master’s degree in Library Science is required.
  • 1-3 years of related experience.
  • Must be experienced using electronic resources.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent customer service skills.
