Description:

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
 
Performs difficult professional work involving responsibility for major service center in the Boca Raton Public Library.

Responsible for the effective administration, core systems operations, and evaluation of BRPL's Digital & Technology Services and its mission.

Supervises professional personnel, paraprofessional personnel and volunteers, including, but not limited to, ILS Librarian, Digital Librarian, and Discover Studio Manager.  
 
Supervised by the Manager of Library Services.
 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides strategic direction for the BRPL on integrated library system use by staff and public, and oversees the work of ILS Librarian to ensure the optimum use of all operations of the ILS system.
 
Serves as the liaison between City's IT and the BRPL, and works closely with City of Boca Raton's IT Department on library technology and technology services, including computing for the public.
 
Maintains excellent relations with the Public by handling escalated customer complaints, customer feedback and customer suggestions; maintains excellent relations with the Recreation Service Department, City Departments, and BRPL stakeholders through regular communication, meetings and reporting.

Oversees the hiring, orientation, training, supervision, scheduling, professional development and regular evaluation of all Digital & Technology Services professional personnel, paraprofessional personnel;

Plans, prepares and oversees the administration of the Digital & Technology Services portion of the BRPL's yearly City budget, seeks grants through City resources to meet defined technology needs; proposes funding opportunities to BRPL Friends group as appropriate.

Prepares, analyzes, and reports BRPL's monthly statistics to the Library Manager; provides yearly statistics report to the State of Florida Division of Library Information; provides yearly trend analysis to Library Manager, staff and stakeholders; uses statistics information to improve operations and maximize the efficiencies for areas of oversight.

Schedules, completes and reports a yearly assessment and evaluation of Digital & Technology Services operations in order to ensure that the public is provided excellent digital literacy tools and resources, technology literacy tools and resources, and technology inclusion goals are being met; does presentations of findings in meetings with staff, stakeholders, and in a variety of settings as invited or as directed.

Assists the Library Manager with special projects and research for the BRPL including strategic plans for service to the public.
Researches and remains current on emerging and evolving public library trends in technology to provide vision, strategic direction and administrative leadership on digital literacy, information literacy, technological tools for library and information management, emerging technologies, research resources and STEM teaching concepts to improve customer service through better user experiences, online experiences, and educational opportunities.
Responsible for all coordination of purchasing and licensing of digital products and technology, includes working with various City Departments to assure timely transactions. 
Serves as the head of all BRPL's technology staff training teams to ensure staff has the highest level of skill with BRPL's available technology; works collaboratively and strategically to integrate emerging technologies and digital literacy skills into library staff training and public programs; implements integration of technology, including mobile technologies, into the curriculum of BRPL's public classes for all ages;
Develops and provides ongoing assessment of policies related to the use of BRPL technology and digital resources for the public and for staff; includes privacy and intellectual freedom principles and laws guiding public libraries.
Provides ongoing leadership and development of a digital library on the BRPL's website, which includes digital strategy for collections, services and emerging customer needs.
Acts as website manager by approving all content.
Participates in professional organizations, attends regional, state and national workshops and meetings.
 
Enforces of the Library's Rules of Conduct and serves as the Building Administrator in Charge;
 
Serves as the Manager of Library Services when required

Education:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
Ability to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of professional, paraprofessional, and/or clerical staff and volunteers.
Ability to research and analyze administrative library problems, and to make recommendations for their solution.
Ability to interpret library policies and objectives to community groups and the general public.
Ability to maintain administrative and fiscal records, prepare reports, and collect and report statistics.
Extensive knowledge of professional library principles, practices, methods, and techniques.
Considerable knowledge of the relevant literature, trends, and developments in the field of library services.
Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Advanced skill in the use of a computers and knowledge of software applications.
Ability to serve the public and interact with fellow employees with honesty and integrity.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, co-workers, vendors, Recreation Services department and other City departments.
Ability to act as Library Manager as requested.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 
Master's Degree in library and/or information science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association required; minimum of five (5) years experience working with library systems and library technology and three (3) years supervisory experience.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in a three (3) year period.
