Florida State University Libraries seek a Humanities Librarian to provide consultation, instruction, and outreach services to the departments of History, Philosophy, Religion and affiliated programs, institutes and centers. The ideal candidate is proactive in developing partnerships and services and is able to identify and solve the challenges of our scholars. The Humanities Librarian will engage and collaborate with colleagues in the libraries, as well as faculty, staff and students and the Tallahassee community to provide exceptional services responsive to the needs of the academic community. The successful candidate will thrive in our highly collaborative, dynamic and user-focused environment and will engage with ongoing efforts to promote new and exciting initiatives in the libraries and on campus.
Serve as the primary liaison to academic programs in history, philosophy and religion, as well as affiliated programs, institutes and centers.
Develop and provide information literacy instruction and course-integrated learning activities in these areas.
Collaborate with library and academic faculty to develop new methods of delivering research assistance and learning activities.
Provide specialized consultations, instruction, and outreach in liaison areas.
Create research guides, Web pages, video tutorials, or other materials to provide access to information resources.
Evaluate, select, and review resources that support and enhance current curricular and research needs and support faculty scholarship and publication.
Develop, manage, and revise collection development policy statements and approval plan profiles as needed for assigned subjects.
Consult with faculty and students on digital humanities and open education projects in collaboration with the Libraries’ Office of Digital Research and Scholarship.
Work with colleagues to identify and develop new library services
Participate in planning and implementing outreach activities and events that engage the academic community.
Serve on committees of the Libraries and the University.
Contribute to state, regional, and national professional organizations through research, publication, and other professional and scholarly activities.
This position will require some weekend and evening hours.
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or graduate degree in History, Philosophy, Religion, or related subject area.
Working knowledge of one or more of the following languages: Spanish, French, Italian, German, Arabic, Japanese, or Chinese.
Ability to provide advanced research assistance in one or more of the subject areas listed above.
Expertise in assigned subjects sufficient to assess curricular and research needs for these areas, build collections, and develop library services for these areas.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with staff, faculty and students at all levels and with people of diverse backgrounds.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Flexibility in adapting to changing organizational priorities and technological environments.
Strong grasp of current issues, trends, and technologies impacting higher education and academic libraries.
Ability to meet the library’s requirement for scholarship, service, and leadership.
High level of professionalism and commitment to the organization and its mission.
Two or more years of experience in academic libraries or a related setting, preferably in a collection development or public services unit
Interest in or knowledge of digital humanities tools and best practices
Record of scholarly publications and/or presentations
