Serves as head of Cataloging and Technical Services under the supervision of the Library Director. Position is responsible for a centralized cataloging and processing department with branches located around Indian River County. Position is responsible for cataloging, processing, and organizing library materials both physical and virtual for the library system.
Master’s Degree in Library Science preferred with (3) or more years of cataloging experience. A Bachelor’s degree and (5) or more years of work cataloging library materials may be substituted.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Thorough knowledge of library science theories, principles and practices for managing a library and collection, and for providing library services to a community. Knowledge of cataloging principals including MARC, DDC, and RDA. Supervisory experience preferred. Must be able to write and speak the English language. Direct, train and supervise staff. Performs original and copy cataloging for all formats of library materials, and applies Library of Congress subject headings. Manages additions, corrections and withdrawal of catalog records and materials. Adds downloadable content to the online library catalog. Performs catalog updates and deletes, and serves as point of contact for any catalog or processing issues county-wide. Works directly with the IT staff to diagnose and correct any problems with our database. Responsibilities include training staff, planning, assigning and directing work, ordering supplies, discipline and evaluations and resolving problems.
