The Shimberg Health Sciences Library at USF Health provides library and information services to students, faculty, and staff at USF Health. The library also provides these services to affiliated hospitals, area health professionals and providers, and members of the community.
This position is responsible for performing the initial triage of incoming interlibrary loan and document delivery requests from library patrons (confirming patron eligibility, determining billing status, researching/correcting bibliographic data using library databases, confirming copyright clearance, following some requests through to completion and properly routing others), and training and overseeing Library Services co-workers in the triage procedure.
This very detailed work is done while also attending to the needs of library patrons at the library's primary customer service point, the Library Services Desk, which includes answering the phone and greeting visitors; providing assistance to patrons in their use of library resources and technology; helping to troubleshoot online access problems; checking out (and back in) books, reserve items and conference rooms; and helping to maintain the book stacks.
Added to these duties is the responsibility of providing reference triage: serving as the first point of contact for patrons seeking reference services, answering basic reference questions under the guidance of the library's reference librarians, and referring the more complex inquiries to a reference librarian.
This position requires a high school diploma and three to four years of paraprofessional library experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute for the required experience.
Familiarity with Integrated library systems used for loaning and returning library materials including reserve items (Circulation module) and processing UBorrow lending and borrowing requests (ILL module). The position also requires familiarity with Web browsers (Used to access library catalog and databases and to research citation information, among many other uses), Microsoft Office (Used for email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.), and ILLiad (a resource sharing management software used to process incoming ILL and document delivery requests).
