This position involves responsibility for performing technical library tasks approaching a professional level. An employee in this category exercises considerable judgment and discretion in performing advanced technical duties. The individual needs strong knowledge of computers and how they operate, which includes having a broad understanding of hardware and software, operating systems and basic computer programming. Familiarity with electronic equipment, Internet applications and security is also required. Technicians may also need good communication skills because this position requires frequent interaction with clients. Working both independently and in team settings, the specialist develops new digital library services that emphasize usability, sustainability, and performance; and provides training to library staff regarding library systems and technology.
Maintains & provides enhancements to a suite of applications comprising the integrated library system, Sirsi Dynix
Attends Pinellas Public Library Cooperative meetings related to the ILS.
Maintains awareness of and develops in-depth knowledge of new technologies that support library operations
Assists the IT Administrator with upgrades to the system as needed.
AND, MOST IMPORTANT, HELPING THE STAFF MIGRATE FROM WEB-BASED TO CLOUD TECHNOLOGY!
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required. At least TWO years of formal training in computer science, information technology or computer information systems. Bachelor’s degree desirable. Information Technology Security certification preferred. Computer experience required. Experience in a library setting and familiarity with integrated library systems a plus.
