This position provides oversight for the Library’s public and outreach services including reference, bibliographic instructional and event management, as well as, being a liaison to assigned committees and colleges/ schools.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Public Services and Outreach
i. Create, schedule, organize and promote University Library events to the University and its community
ii. Promote Library Public services via all Library social media channels
iii. Coordinate and collaborate with other university department for events in which the Library is involved or has a direct interest in those university events.
iv. Ensure high level of customer service for the library’s public services.
v. Provide professional reference services for students, faculty, and community users in person, on the telephone, and digitally especially online support including chat;
vi. Promote and marketing library resources by increasing their visibility and usability for our community especially online marketing;
vii. Implement engaging bibliographic instruction by working with teaching faculty to create in person and electronic instructional programs that are course and assignment specific including online video tutorials;
viii. Improving outreach activities to promote library programming, resources and services;
ix. Create resources and implement classes and workshops in real and virtual environments;
x. Work with teaching faculty to develop bibliographic instruction and outreach that builds information fluency
xi. Network with teaching and research faculty in assigned programs and schools to promote library programming and resources
xii. Network, collaborating, and actively participating in local, regional, national, or international organizations regarding information and reference service, information literacy and instruction, collection development, and/or assigned subjects and disciplines
xiii. Serve on/participate in University organizations, committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate
a. Master’s of Library Information Science from an ALA accredited program or terminal degree, those near completion of their program may be considered
b. Preferred second Master or terminal degree in a subject area from an accredited college or university
c. Experience with library instruction/information literacy and information/reference service in an academic or research library setting
d. Excellent technology skills especially with social media, online learning environments, and digital reference services
e. Ability to assist and instruct users and students in specialized resources
f. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
g. Ability to organize and schedule events
h. Ability to work independently and in teams in a dynamic changing environment
i. Excellent organizational and time management skills
j. Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population
k. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, faculty, and University administration
