Position REQUIRES a Master's degree from an ALA accredited program.


This position is responsible for professional library duties, including work with children, teens and families, as part of a staff who delivers quality customer service at a busy library, and requires the ability to supervise and direct the work of others. The person in this position is one of a team who delivers day-to-day service in a branch library and who will work with the branch manager and other library staff to prepare the collection and manage the transition to a new building which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2019.

The salary posted is a range; based on our candidates' education, skills and fit, salary will be negotiated within this range. In addition, Lee County has a comprehensive benefits package including medical insurance, supplemental insurance coverage and retirement.

  • The successful candidate may be required to perform any of the following: plan and present programming for children and families at the library and outreach locations; reference and reader's advisory for children, teens and families; children's collection maintenance; computer/technology assistance; supervision and training of staff and/or volunteers; branch supervision in the absence of the branch manager. 
  • This person may participate in system-wide committees.
  • Supervise, coach and evaluate staff and/or volunteers.

  • Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a Master's degree in Library Science from a graduate library school program accredited by the American Library Association and one year experience in a library or related field. 
  • Must have knowledge of current professional public library principles, methods and practices; relevant computer applications, literature for children and teens; programming for children and teens; and have the ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
  • Prefer two years related library experience. 
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry objects up to 35 pounds. Ability to sit and stand for longer periods of time. 
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required. 
  • The ability to pass a criminal background check is required.
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, and relate positively to a diverse population.

  • Ability to plan and implement successful programs for children in cooperation with other libraries and community organizations. 
  • 80 hours bi-weekly; days and hours will vary to include evenings, Saturdays and some Sundays.
  • The County may require employees to make either a temporary or long-term, permanent transfer to another Library location to accommodate the organization's business needs.
