Position REQUIRES a Master's degree from an ALA accredited program.

Reporting to the Head of Instruction and Engagement Services, the librarian in this position will actively engage with students and faculty to understand and effectively respond to their informational and research needs.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Libraries and the University in an on-call reference model, this position requires that the successful candidate be a strong presence in the campus community, building and maintaining close relationships with faculty and students in order to meet their teaching, learning, research, and publication needs. 

The Instruction and Engagement Librarian will engage students in the learning process by providing face-to-face and online instruction sessions, workshops, online guides, and tutorials. The successful candidate will provide individual research assistance, including consultations to both students and faculty, participate in collection development, and serve as a liaison to campus groups and academic disciplines. This position will also serve as a 1/4-time library representative to the FAU Fort Lauderdale campus’ curricular programs, spending approximately 10 hours a week at the Broward County Public Library in Fort Lauderdale meeting with faculty and students or interacting with them remotely to gauge their needs and deliver services.

The successful candidate must be passionate about actively contributing to the academic success of FAU’s students and faculty through the advancement of library initiatives and services.

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Effective instruction and presentation skills.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment where consultation, flexibility, creativity, collaboration, and cooperation are essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.

  • Minimum of two years of post-master’s professional experience in an academic library environment.
  • Experience working in a multi-campus environment or in multi-institutional consortia.
  • Demonstrated interest in professional development that will enhance the candidate’s value to the Libraries, the University, and the profession.
  • A record of scholarship and contributions to the profession through peer-reviewed publications in librarianship or conference presentations at national or international library and/or related conferences.
  • A record of professionally relevant service within a university or college, a state, a region, the nation, or internationally.
