This position will oversee the LS&S region that includes Texas, Florida, Tennessee and Kansas.


The Regional Director position is ideal for a dynamic and experienced library professional with a passion for exceptional library service. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of library professionals who are committed to creating thriving libraries in the heart of our communities. Candidate should have a demonstrated knowledge of sound public library management principles, best practices, trends, and current professional theories along with the ability to provide exceptional guidance and mentoring to the library staff in the region, especially the Library Directors. Ability to inspire staff with creative new ideas for enhancing library services while growing the use of and support for library services among the public and strategic partners. Able to exercise good judgment, along with the ability to communicate effectively and positively with various government and community groups.


This is a highly visible position requiring a professional librarian capable of working closely with LS&S, local officials, library boards, and community stakeholders to nurture and develop library responsiveness to local public needs and community priorities. This position reports directly to the Chief Library Officer.



  • Trains and mentors Library Directors in developing the library management teams to deliver excellent patron experiences in all library systems in the region
  • Trains and mentors Library Directors in developing and implementing action plans that meet operational and organizational objectives
  • Manages with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of LS&S and creates thriving libraries in the heart of our communities
  • Evaluates library environments and key operational indicators to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement
  • Coaches Library Directors and other staff to help achieve operational goals
  • Supports and monitors the planning and execution of local, regional and company initiatives to achieve both operational excellence and business results; follows up consistently to ensure accountability to plans
  • Supports Library Directors in monitoring and managing staffing levels in partnership with Human Resources
  • Encourages and supports Library Directors and their staff in utilizing existing tools and best practices to ensure effective library operations
  • Utilizes and helps Library Directors utilize management information tools and analyzes financial reports and other library related data (usage, demographics, trends, etc.) to identify and address library system trends and issues
  • Evaluates and supports the performance of Library Directors in their region
  • Regularly solicits client and other stakeholder feedback and supports solicitation of patron feedback to understand client needs and the needs of the local community
  • Leads or assists with operational projects or initiatives



  • Master's degree in Library Studies/Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible public library managerial experience required
  • Three or more years of experience in a Public Library Director or equivalent position required
  • Current residency in one of the states in the region highly preferred
  • Experience analyzing and applying financial reports and library related data (usage, demographics, trends, etc.)
  • Experience in a role that requires frequent interaction with customers, fulfilling the requests of customers and responsibility for addressing customer issues, questions and suggestions
  • Demonstrated successful experience in a complex, fast-paced environment
