The City of Clearwater Library Department is seeking an entry level professional to perform professional library work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility. An employee in this classification works under the general direction of the head of the division and is responsible for the adaptation and implementation of modern library principles and practices in one or more of the major library service areas. General duties may include assisting the public to find information in person or over the phone from print or electronic resources; planning or providing programs; maintaining computer operations; and representing the library to the community.
The selected candidates will be responsible for providing patron assistance at the public service desks, assisting with programming, providing computer assistance, utilizing the web and working as a member of their library teams.
Qualified applicants will be kept on file for one year (or until a new list is generated, whichever comes first) for any other full-time or part-time Librarian I positions throughout the City.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs the basic duties of the professional library staff, including public desk duties, reference services and reader’s services to youth, teens and their families, assisting in maintaining the youth collection, creating displays to highlight book collections or services and other duties as needed. The position will plan, develop and implement Youth Services programs, story times and events and interact with children of all ages and the adults who accompany them. Performs related tasks as assigned.
Graduation from an American Library Association accredited library school with a Master's Degree in Library Science or a Bachelor's Degree in any field and two years of professional level experience in library work. Any equivalent of education, training and experience.
