If so, Florida State University (FSU) Libraries would like to hear from you! The Academic Success and Access (ASA) department, a division of Research and Learning Services, is committed to developing and improving effective programs that enhance student success at FSU. 

On our newly-formed team, every librarian manages programs and supervises staff. Together, we create and support traditional and cutting edge services designed to meet the current and emergent needs of the academic community at FSU. We facilitate more than 2 million transactions every year in programs as varied as circulation, reserves, reference, technology support, tutoring, virtual reference, outreach, distance services, and library instruction. Each librarian has individual areas of responsibility, but our team adopts a holistic approach and works cooperatively across domains to provide superior service and academic support. 

Our Director of Service Strategies is looking for an inquisitive, optimistic practitioner who will lead projects and programs in:

Outreach: Connect students with library spaces, resources, and services through creative, innovative programming and by strengthening our partnerships with student organizations, university departments, and other stakeholders. Champion and enhance the library’s value and relevance by designing transformative experiences that spark intellectual discovery and engagement, and help other librarians do the same.

Student Experience Design: Facilitate our achievement of seamless, student-centered services by leading projects and programs that help us identify and respond to user needs. Develop systems for student engagement by which we can listen to and learn from our users themselves, then collaborate with teams across the library to enhance our services, spaces, and collections so our students will have the best possible library experiences, both in-person and online. 

FSU librarians are expected to play a leadership role in promoting the FSU Libraries values: collegiality, trust, recognition, diversity, inclusion, critical thinking, engagement, empowerment, and innovation. As faculty members, our librarians pursue individual and collaborative scholarship. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop additional research, service, and student success projects in accordance with their interests. We provide mentoring and funding for professional development and service activities in line with each librarian’s interests and career goals


Provide comprehensive leadership for the FSU Libraries’ programs in Outreach and Student Experience Design

Hire, train, and supervise departmental staff in coordination with administration and colleagues

Develop effective assessment and evaluation of services and projects to maintain our goal of superior service

Serve on library, campus, and consortial committees as appropriate

Contribute to state, regional and national professional organizations

Participate in research, publication, and other professional and scholarly activities


Master's degree in Library and Information Science or other relevant graduate degree (Communication, User Experience, etc.)

Demonstrated knowledge of research and discovery services

Demonstrated success delivering services related to the areas of responsibility

Strong grasp of current issues, trends, and technologies impacting higher education and academic libraries

Commitment to and enthusiasm for delivering excellent customer experiences through assessment and engagement with users

Able to interact with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines

Flexibility to adapt to changing organizational priorities and technological environments

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

Able to work effectively in a collaborative and creative environment 

Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in a changing environment

Ability to meet the library's requirement for scholarship, service, and leadership
