Description:

MAJOR FUNCTION:

The position of Temporary Library Aide will assist various library departments in the implementation of their Summer Reading Program and additional summer activities.  The duties include (but are not limited to): assisting with running crafts and other classes, assisting with signup of summer readers, basic shelving and shelf-reading, craft preparation and cleanup, off-site promotion, basic member assistance and other general duties.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Shelve library materials using the Dewey Decimal System and other authorized systems.
  • Shelf-read and maintain library shelves in proper order.
  • Assist members with finding materials in the collection.
  • Assist at the youth and member support desk as needed.
  • Utilize positive customer service techniques and provide professional, courteous service to all members.
  • Answer directional, policy, and procedural questions from library members.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment and library machines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of library member records.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for library classes and workshops.
  • Assist with the implementation of Summer Reading Program (SRP), including sign-ups and incentives for adults, children and teens.
  • Assist with additional off-site promotional of library events and resources.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform duties with moderate supervision following established procedures and deadlines.
  • Ability to use library automation system and associated equipment.
  • Ability to communicate easily and clearly on the phone, in person, and in correspondence with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, patiently, and courteously with City employees, the Library Advisory Board, library members and other community members.
  • Skill in dealing with the general public with demonstrated patience.
  • Knowledge of general office skills and tools including personal computers.
  • Ability to learn and implement Library systems and procedures.
  • Ability to use equipment such as: computer, modem, typewriter, adding machine, microfiche reader, paper cutter, fax, copier, telephone and postage meter.
  • Ability to handle multiple activities or interruptions at once and to work positively and effectively within a team model.
  • Skill in attention to detail and accuracy.

Education:

TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work nights and weekends. Weekly work schedule may vary due to demand staffing. Possess a valid Florida driver’s license. Every New Port Richey employee is considered essential personnel and is required to fill out a Disaster Response Survey. You are subject to being required to report to work before, during, and after a declared disaster.   EOE/DFWP
