Description:

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

Responsible for performing complex administrative work in the planning, directing, and oversight of departmental services and resources.  Responsible for strategic planning, setting policy, and providing direction to managers in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives. Work is performed under the direction of the Community Services Director.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Plans, organizes, evaluates and directs library policies, programs and operations
  2. Plans and coordinates such activities as collection development, programming, outreach, in-service training, technological resources, revenue collection activities, and patron assistance
  3. Determines goals and objectives; drafts policies and procedures
  4. Manages, trains, schedules and evaluates supervisory staff engaged in circulation of material, readers’ advisory services, children’s programming, public relations, acquisition of materials, and reference sources
  5. Prepares and maintains library budget
  6. Selects and purchases library materials, equipment and books, monitors, controls, and evaluates selections
  7. Works with volunteers, Friends of Library, Tavares Library Advisory Board, and other groups
  8. Prepares reports and maintains records.
  9. Acts as liaison with Library Advisory Board of Lake County Library System
  10. Deals with the general public on a daily basis
  11. Collaboratively works with other divisions within the Community Services Department

·         Works inside in a library environment

 

·         Occasional outdoor work and/or in other divisions of the Community Services department may be required, based upon the overall needs of the department

Education:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

 

 

1.             Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field

 

2.             Masters of Library Science Degree preferred

 

3.             Six (6) years experience in multi-service library system with at least three (3) years of responsible administrative and supervisory experience

 

4.             Special consideration will be given to those candidates who have experience with library expansion and construction projects.
