GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs difficult professional work supervising a major activity in the Boca Raton Public Library (BRPL), providing innovative, effective and well-attended programs and services for teens and tweens. Supervises professional personnel, paraprofessional personnel, and volunteers, as needed. Supervised by the Youth Services Librarian II.
Works with teens, tweens, volunteers, approved community partners, and Youth Services staff to plan, implement and evaluate high-quality, developmentally-appropriate formal and informal learning activities that support teens' and tweens' personal and academic goals;
Ensures access and inclusivity to a wide variety of library resources, services, and activities for and with teens and tweens, including those facing challenges to access, equity, or inclusivity;
Supervises Youth Services staff in planning, developing and implementing teen and tween programs and services;
Trains and evaluates Youth Services staff in professional skills relevant to teen and tween programs and services;
Collaborates with Youth Services staff to enhance teen and tween programs related to the Summer Reading Program and STEM/STEAM;
Collaborates with Instructional Services staff and the Technology & Digital Services staff to provide innovative technology and digital programming and services for teens and tweens;
Collaborates with the Events & Community Engagement staff to organize middle and high school visits both on and off campus;
Collaborates with the professional development committee to enhance overall library customer service related to teens and tweens;
Coordinates with the marketing team to promote tools, classes or programs relevant to teen and tween programs and services;
Provides and promotes teen and tween readers' advisory, assisting as needed with teen and tween materials selection;
Maintains and compiles teen and tween program statistics and reporting as needed, engaging in ongoing assessment of teen and tween services using relevant methods and resources;
Assists the Youth Services Librarian II to analyze, prepare and administer budgets in assigned areas;
Serves as a member of library and city committees, as needed, to advocate for events, programs and services which support positive teen and tween experiences in the library and in the community.
Enforces the Library's Rules of Conduct and serves as the Building Administrator in Charge, as required.
Stands in as the Youth Services Librarian II, as required.
Performs related tasks, as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of professional library principles, materials, and practices as related to teen library services;
Knowledge of youth developmental stages and benchmarks from birth to 18 and current trends in education, with special focus on teens and tweens;
Ability to work independently or as a part of a team, and to organize and lead projects;
Ability to plan, organize, direct, and administer a major library program;
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of professional, paraprofessional, and volunteers;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, library patrons, approved community partners, and others;
Ability to assist in the establishment of library policies and to provide accurate interpretation to community groups, public officials, professional groups, and the general public, as needed;
Ability to represent the library at professional meetings and to participate in the development or improvement of professional library methods and standards, when assigned;
Must be able to work independently, prioritize duties and tasks, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision;
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
Skilled in the operation of computers and demonstrates an aptitude for learning various technologies such as Apple products, 3D printers, GarageBand, Adobe Creative Suite, Animoto, Scratch coding, iMovie, Canva, gaming consoles, and other creative software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree in library and/or information science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association required; Minimum of two (2) years' related experience working with teens required;
Supervisory experience preferred.
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license with no more than six (6) points in the past three (3) years.
Must be able to work varied schedules, including nights and weekends.
Essential employee during declared storm emergencies.
Must be able to see, stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, bend, and reach.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push a loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds.
Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust.
