JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Library Director, this tenure track faculty librarian will work in a collaborative environment to actively engage with students and faculty to understand and effectively respond to their information and research needs, working with the other reference and instruction librarians to foster and encourage a culture of learning and use of library resources, collections, and research services. This tenure-track faculty position is expected to coordinate the teaching schedule of the library; use data and evaluation tools for assessing the instruction program at all locations using all formats; provide outstanding reference service; and, also support some collection development as a liaison to a specific College, and to create some learning objects each academic year (LibGuides, tutorials, handouts, videos, etc). The Instruction and Assessment Librarian is responsible for providing the reports and structure needed to assess instruction and information literacy in a manner that supports accreditation standards and the mission of the library. The Instruction and Assessment Librarian contributes her/his individual skills and experience as needed in order to support the library’s mission, values, and objectives, relying on teamwork and judgment in establishing priorities among changing and competing demands.

Tenure track faculty librarians are expected to support the mission of the university through their work in the library, publish, and present at conferences; and, give of their time and talent through service to the university, the larger community, and the profession.

DUTIES AND TASKS: 

• Working with other faculty librarians and teaching faculty to assess instruction and information literacy in a manner that supports accreditation standards.

• Collecting, sharing, and maintaining documentation and statistical information on instruction.

• Taking the lead and working collaboratively with the other librarians to create and share teaching materials such as online tutorials, web pages, handouts, and online research guides.

• Coordinating and teaching library instruction-in person and via the web or other technologies.

• Developing and implementing library outreach programs to better engage faculty members in the use and application of information resources.

• Developing and maintaining relationships and creating new initiatives that respond to trends in teaching and learning.

• Contributes information via blogs, social media, website, twitter, etc. to promote awareness of library services, resources and tools.

• Participates in department, library, and university planning as needed.

• Develops and documents processes and procedures; periodically reviews and revises processes and procedures as needed.

• Support collection development as a liaison to a specific College

• Accepts and implements other duties as assigned.


Education:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

Knowledge: 

• Master's Degree from an American Library Association accredited program in Library and Information Studies, and some teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

• Understanding of reference, research, or liaison services in an academic or research library environment.

• Knowledge of Qualtrics, SPSS, or focus groups or other tools (quantitative or qualitative) to gather and assess Information Literacy efforts, student learning, outreach programs, services and/or spaces.

• Knowledge of assessing the effectiveness of learning, programs, services and/or spaces to support student learning in required.

• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in research and instructional services, and some experience mentoring new faculty in IL instruction using traditional and non-traditional teaching techniques.

• Knowledge of curriculum mapping, information literacy testing and benchmarking, First Year Engagement library instruction, and extensive outreach to faculty at all locations

Skills: 

• Effective and engaging instruction and presentation skills.

• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Computer applications skills related to research, including SPSS, Qualtrics, or other research tools

• Computer application skills using Microsoft Office, LibAnswers, and other library-related software

Abilities: 

• Ability to work in a team environment where consultation, flexibility, creativity, collaboration, and cooperation are essential. Must be service-oriented, energetic, collegial, and self-motivated

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects independently while meeting deadlines.

• Ability to work flexibly, creatively, and collaboratively with others in a changing, lean, and fast-paced environment with a diverse population. Proactive and interested in outreach efforts for information literacy and integrating IL into the curriculum.
