Description:

The University of West Florida Libraries in Pensacola, FL seeks a full-time Instructor Librarian (position #105630) to be the Coordinator of the Libraries’ Scholarly Communication Services and subject liaison for assigned disciplines including nursing, health sciences and administration, movement sciences, public health, and biology.

 

As a Reference Librarian, responsibilities include:

-       Provide reference and research assistance to library patrons through multiple modes of delivery, including scheduled shifts at the Reference Desk

-       Serve as the Reference subject-specialist and faculty liaison for assigned disciplines, including those in the Usha Kundu, MD. College of Health as well as biology and environmental science

-       Provide group and individual library instruction and/or Information Literacy instruction and activities

-       Provide individual research consultations

-       Selection, acquisition, management, weeding, and development of library materials, in all formats, for assigned subject areas

As the Scholarly Communications Coordinator, responsibilities include:

-       Develop, implement, and coordinate scholarly communication services to expand the Library’s support of the creation and dissemination of UWF’s scholarly output.

-       Increase the knowledge of faculty, students, and staff through education, promotion, and outreach regarding scholarly communication topics such as open access, open educational resources, data management planning, scholarly identity, and research impact

-       Promote and grow the use of the campus’ Institutional Repository

-       Monitor and report on national scholarly communication trends, policy issues, and best practices

 

The successful candidate must be able to thrive in a collaborative and innovative environment; enthusiastically participate in projects involving new and emerging technologies; and possess excellent patron service, communication, writing, and organizational skills. Regular work schedule during the fall and spring academic sessions is Monday through Friday.

 

Required:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in library science and appropriate experience as a professional librarian consistent with university guidelines.

Experience in reference service and/or collection development

Demonstrated knowledge of the current scholarly communications environment, including best practices, issues, trends, and new and emerging technologies

Background in science or health science (e.g., biology, nursing, allied health)

Experience teaching library instruction classes

Professional, academic library experience

Program Overview/Environment:

The Reference Department consists of the Head of the Department and five librarians who are responsible for providing reference service, teaching library instruction sessions, collecting materials for the monographic collection, and selecting serials and databases. The Reference Librarians each have a coordinating function (e.g., interlibrary loans, electronic resources, information literacy, and collection development) and assigned disciplines. This position will function as a reference librarian and scholarly communications coordinator.

 

The University of West Florida Libraries have 12 library faculty and 24 support staff in three facilities - the John C. Pace Library and Professional Studies Library on the Pensacola main campus and a branch library on the Emerald Coast Campus in Fort Walton Beach. UWF is one of twelve State Universities in Florida. Position:

The salary is $48,000. This is a full-time twelve-month non-tenure earning position with faculty rank and status. Position reports to the Head of the Reference Department.  The position will be open until filled, with a preferred response date of September 2, 2019.
