The Reference Services Department continues to build on its success and is a well-regarded hub of information, dynamic programming and exceptional collections. We strive to serve the diverse Delray Beach community with technology and computer training via our Older Adults Tech Academy, Creative Cloud Lab and MS Office Training.
Under the direct supervision of the Department Head, the Library & Technology Assistant I performs public service work of a routine nature, related to computers and technology, which requires the application of skilled techniques and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
At the Reference Desk, assisting patrons, face-to-face, over the phone or online, with routine and directional inquiries which may require basic research and reference knowledge, including, but not limited to, searching for books in the catalog, locating books on the shelves, and facilitating patrons’ reference interviews.
Assisting patrons with computer usage and technology inquiries on public computers.
Applying Library Guidelines and Reference Services Department procedures to the daily operations of the 2nd floor public areas.
Assisting in the teaching of computer classes and technology programming.
Assisting library staff with matters relating to computers and technology.
Cooperating with the library staff in performing any duties essential to efficient library operations.
Registering and answering any questions about upcoming programming and Tech Academy training.
Performing clerical activities, such as answering phones, sorting mail, filing, word processing, and photocopying and mailing out material.
Processing new materials including books, audio-visual materials, and computer software.
Performing data entry for bibliographic and holding records maintenance, and updating patron information.
Collecting and reporting on library-related statistics.
Completing special projects as assigned.
This is a part-time position with a maximum of 19.5 hours, including weeknights and alternating weekends.

EDUCATION AND JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree required. Knowledge of Sirsi or other online cataloging system a plus. Highly competent in computer use, technology, hardware and software. Competence in the necessary technical skills and the ability to tactfully manage challenging customer service situations; strong customer service skills and experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates respect for diversity and inclusion of cultural values. Working knowledge of library methods and procedures. Experience working with adults and older adults preferred.
Ability to lift 25 pounds in the shifting and moving of library materials and equipment required. Ability to navigate stairs, kneel, bend, reach, stand for 2 hours, stretch and stoop in the maintenance of computer hardware and systems. Must be able to work weekends and evenings as necessary, as well as other duties as required.
