Job Description

Under the supervision of the Library Systems Manager; the Library Branch Manager performs a variety of high-level complex supervisory, professional, administrative and technical functions of the assigned library branch. 

 

Starting rate will depend upon qualifications and/or experience, typically not exceeding mid-range. 

 

Job Responsibilities

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.  Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the work load. 
•Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the assigned library branch
•Selects new materials for the library collection
•Oversee the ordering of equipment and other materials
•Monitors the general condition of the library
•Prepares and monitors monthly and annual reports for the library system manager
•Prepares and recommends annual library budget for the branch library
•Administers expenditure of the branch library’s budget
•Responsible for proper securing and accounting for funds collected
•Supervises the professional staff and support staff, and makes appropriate assignments
•Performs other work as directed and required
•Adheres to work schedule and attendance requirements
 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Library Branch Manager -
Knowledge of modern professional library principles, methods, practices, materials and administration
•Knowledge of community needs and interests in relation to library services
•Knowledge of reader interests levels, books and authors
•Ability to plan, organize and direct library programs and activities
•Ability to speak and write effectively
•Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with public officials, peers, other divisions and departments as well as the general public
•Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns

 

 


Education:

Qualifications, Training and Experience

 

REQUIRED:
•Graduate Degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university with a major in Library Science, Information Science, Library Information Science or related field
and Two (2) or more years’ experience as a Librarian or Library Branch Manager
OR
•Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university 
and Six (6) years’ experience as a Library Branch Manager
•Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED:
•Two (2) or more years supervisory experience 
•Experience with cataloging both original and copy materials
•Note:  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered as determined by the hiring manager.
