ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Responsible for creating and maintaining accurate and thorough online descriptions and access points for materials of all formats in the Library’s collection.
Supervises activities in designated areas. Performs original and copy cataloging of all formats of library materials to facilitate their identification, access, and use. Plans, coordinates, and evaluates the work of personnel. Responsible for the cataloging and classification of library materials in all physical formats and subjects using national standards and local practice. Develops and implements cataloging best practices, policies, and procedures. Maintains authority control and performs needed authority work in the database. Executes reports and performs scheduled database maintenance to ensure accurate and detailed cataloging to facilitate ease of access to library materials. Provides collection analysis support to all levels of library staff through the creation of reports using the ILS system. Must be able to interpret and apply the Library of Congress subject headings, Dewey Decimal System, AACRII, MARC 21, and RDA. Keeps abreast of emerging standards, technologies, and processes. Maintains contact with other agencies by serving on committees and working at public service desks and other duties as assigned. Evening/weekend hours are/may be part of the regular schedule.
Makes recommendations and assists with building and enhancing the assigned area of the library collection. Maintains necessary statistics and generates reports as needed. Upholds the library’s mission and values in the pursuit of all duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of Library cataloging principles and procedures. Ability to plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate work of library personnel. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with the public and staff; working harmoniously in a team environment. Ability to plan, coordinate, and complete several projects at once. Ability to operate a computer and other related technology with speed and accuracy.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, preferably possession of a Master’s degree in Library Science with two (2) years’ experience in a responsible professional librarian position. An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the forgoing specific requirements may be substituted.
