Position Overview

The King Library provides library services and programs for adults, teens and families. The Digital & Instructional Designer is responsible primarily for the development and design of edited events and presentations to be accessed online. Ability to assist with programming presentation, and training of facilitators/staff, is essential. Rotation at the front desk, event hosting some nights/Saturdays and delivery of library services required.

Library Services

       Registration for library events, statistics compilation, and reporting of programming in conjunction with programming librarian

       Design, produce and assist with innovative online programming

       Train colleagues in the use of editing software, video instruction and presentation, embedding of video and best practices for online presentation

       Experience with doing technology training for all ages

       Audiovisual support for F2F and online book presentations and other library events

       Ability to learn Koha (open source library system) and library online resources and assist patrons with their use

       Front desk work as needed; circulation and discharge of library materials, shelving, inventory, receipt and processing of items, special projects as assigned

       Answer phones, issue memberships, register patrons for events, address emails and provide in person information and assistance

Other Skills/Attributes/Experience Required:

       Minimum of 5 years of instructional design, media editing and online course development

       Skill in training/instruction of others in technology, video production and design

       Experience with gamification/microcasting/podcasting of entertainment and/or educational materials

       Online journal/record of previously produced samples of work

       Detailed examples of written documentation of procedures developed, designed and instructed

       Liaison capability and support with the Technical Department concerning streaming of content

       Dependability, consideration of others, patience and willingness to assist

       An organized and logical/collegial work ethic

       A dedication to the support of library patrons and to services libraries provide

       Excellent verbal and communication skills with a proficiency in the English language

       Experience in a front-line, fast-paced public service environment

       Skill in handling general as well as emergency situations with a calm and efficient demeanor

       A positive, supportive and energetic disposition

       A proficiency with working individually and in taking initiative as well as being able to be a member of a diverse team

       Ability to treat all patrons, staff and visitors with respect and professionalism

       Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the safety and security of all patrons and staff

       A team-based philosophy and work ethic

       Attention to detail and dedication to efficiency and effectiveness

       Cash handling experience

       Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.


Bachelor’s degree (required) and/or advanced degrees preferred in appropriate and/or related fields (communication, media design, distance education, technology, television/media production, etc.)
