Description:

Position Summary:
The Branch Manager II supervises daily operations of a branch or Headquarters Library.  Responsible for the smooth running of the branch, adherence to County and Library policies and procedures and training and supervision of staff.  Responsible for the physical condition of the Branch and authorized to request repairs and materials to solve building issues.  Requires flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as part of the regular work week.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Directs operations of library branch by assisting in developing short-range and long-range plans, determining internal policies and procedures, and coordinating the development of goals and objectives for the unit


Identifies needs and provides recommendations for improving branch operations

Interviews, trains, supervises and evaluates branch staff

Assigns and delegates work

Schedules staff for work shifts

Develops and directs librarians, interns and volunteers who perform reference, bibliographic and community work, programming and other services by holding regular staff meetings, setting goals, planning and developing performance standards and assisting staff in reaching performance standards

Directs and works with staff to provide relevant library services to the residents living in the service area, including overseeing reference and readers’ advisory service to users and providing guidance on materials, including books, audiovisual materials, computerized databases and programs

Maintains a vibrant and attractive collection by employing merchandising techniques, presenting engaging displays and following adopted collection-maintenance practices

Responds to complaints from patrons and interprets policies and procedures

Makes recommendations for disciplinary action and assesses security issues for immediate resolution

Assists in creating the branch-level budget and monitors the spending of the budget throughout the fiscal year

Compiles reports and statistics as required

Oversees branch physical location (cleanliness, safety, security, use); reports problems to the Director and coordinates with maintenance department

Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts and draws conclusions

Interprets community interests and needs

Implements and monitors effectiveness of operational policies and procedures and recommends improvements

Manages a regional branch with circulation of over 150,000 annually

Performs other duties as assigned


Education:

Master’s Degree in Library Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution

Minimum four years of management experience in a public library

Knowledge of library policies and procedures

Thorough knowledge of professional library principles, methods, techniques and procedures

Proficient in the operation of a public library

Proficient in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record
