Duties and Responsibilities:

This is work within the Division of Library and Information Services responsible for, including but not limited to, the following duties:

Leads and coordinates work related to statistics for the Bureau of Library Development including collecting, vetting, reporting and publishing. The statistical collections support planning, research and evaluation of programs, projects and activities. Uses quantitative and qualitative information to determine the impact of programs and services; assists local libraries with the effective use of statistics. Prepares applications, reports and other documents to support statistics and research activities.

Provides consulting services to public library administrators and staff, governing officials, library board members and citizen supporters to encourage best practices with respect to Return on Investment and statistics. This includes identifying and communicating best practices, trends and issues; developing projects or programs; collaborating with agencies, individuals and organizations to support and promote public libraries; and developing, presenting or arranging for continuing education opportunities.

Assists staff of the Bureau to administer state, federal and other grants to libraries and ensures that libraries make effective use of available funds. Responds to requests for information by surface mail, electronic mail, telephone, fax and in person. Supports statewide programs and local library programs that contribute to the fulfillment of the strategic plan for library development in Florida.

Works in a team environment to plan and implement Bureau and Division activities, including continuing education opportunities, publications, surveys, grant administration and other priorities. Efforts are consistent with the values and beliefs of the Division.

To fulfill leadership role, continues to update professional knowledge and skills. Maximizes use of all available means of communication to share knowledge and skills with colleagues and customers, and Responsible for ensuring that usage of the State Purchasing Card (P-Card) conforms to all state and departmental rules and procedures.

Performs other related duties as required.


  • Experience planning and evaluating statewide library service programs.
  • Experience planning and conducting statewide continuing education activities.
  • Experience developing and implementing statewide library projects and programs.
  • Ability to use computer, including spreadsheet and database software.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods used to collect data.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative analysis of data.
  • Ability to make meaningful interpretations and reports using data.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three (3) years of professional experience, post-Master’s degree, collecting, analyzing and interpreting statewide, regional or project specific data using statistical software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • A cover letter addressing the required knowledge, skills and abilities specified in the advertisement


  • A Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association
  • Experience working with statewide or regional or project specific library data
  • Experience in project administration
  • Experience writing grant applications
  • Experience planning and conducting continuing education activities for a broad audience
