General Description:

The STEM Librarian is charged with engaging the community through STEM programs that support learning, creativity, and innovation, as well as personal, social, and community development. Programming is to be consistent and seamless from branch to branch and offer standardized levels of training.  The position requires a flexible schedule, including days, evenings and weekends.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Plans, markets, conducts and facilitate STEM programs for adults, teens and tweens at all Clay County Library locations

Remains up-to-date on current technological trends and regularly incorporates new technologies into programming

Plans and leads computer classes, one-on-one technology assistance and database walkthroughs for patrons

Leads and teaches several programs per month, including obtaining and preparing all necessary materials

Hosts orientations for staff and patrons and assists patrons in the Digital Conversion and Photo Labs

Collaborates with community partners to offer relevant, partner-led programs

Participates in outreach by leading and promoting programs outside of the library branches

Assesses programs by keeping a record of attendance and feedback and by logging statistical information

Maintains catalog of ongoing programs; introduces new programs and events that respond to patron and community demand

Engages community partners, patrons and staff in the promotion of library programs

Contributes to collection development in conjunction with Administration

Sets up and cleans up program space, assists presenters and ensures that presenters and patrons have a positive experience

Works with Branch Managers to coordinate dates and times for programs, as well as setup and takedown of required spaces

Collaborates with Young Adult Librarian, Programming Associates and other staff regarding programming of mutual interest

Attends continuing education programs

Performs other duties as assigned


Master’s Degree in Library Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution

Four years’ experience in a public library setting with two years progressively-complex supervisory experience

Experience with coding (Preferred)

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and ability to keyboard accurately

A valid State of Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record

Preference will be given to those with previous public library programming experience

Preference may be given to candidates with demonstrable experience working in a school, conference center or public venue in a similar function
