Description:

Library Systems & Services (LS&S) is seeking a full time Library Technology Assistant for the new Homestead Cybrarium in Homestead, Florida. Under the direction of the Cybrarium Director, the Library Technology Assistant provides makerspace, virtual reality and general IT customer service. The Library Technology Assistant will also provide direct customer service to the public by assisting at the customer service desk as well as designing and presenting programs and classes for the community. The Library Technology Assistant will coordinate with the City’s IT Department and LS&S IT to ensure all IT systems are maintained.

 

Tentatively scheduled to open December 2020, the Cybrarium will cover two floors of a four-floor mixed use entertainment and community center known as Homestead Station in Miami-Dade County. The Cybrarium will bring excitement to the library, literacy, and learning by using innovations like virtual reality. The Cybrarium will feature a Virtual Reality Cube, Book Mountain, and a pop-up Children’s Theater.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Provide Makerspace programs and support for patrons
  • Manage Virtual Reality equipment, programs and general use. Interact with vendor to troubleshoot issues
  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network related problems encountered by end-users
  • Coordinate with the City’s IT and LS&S IT staff as needed
  • Use established tracking systems to log requests; monitor progress, track problem resolution, identify patterns of failure, research bug fixes and implement solutions
  • Effectively communicate with end users regarding class instruction in group settings and one-on-one
  • Work closely with Supervisor to develop training to be used for maximizing ability to utilize equipment capabilities and features
  • Counsel technology users regarding best practices, ensuring compliance with safety, rules, and policy guidelines
  • Provide multi-format equipment and use instruction
  • Process user requests for one-on-one instruction using Cybrarium equipment
  • Advise supervisor regarding technology issues, needs, and continuous improvements
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Assist with technology assessment activities
  • Provide customer service generally, including circulation and information services
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  


Education:

QUALIFICATIONS:
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

 

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor degree preferred
  • Two years of public library experience preferred
  • Able to communicate with diverse populations
  • Possess good written and oral communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of Windows Administration, design software, virtual reality, 3D printing and 3D scanning
  • General knowledge of computer troubleshooting
  • Able to provide instruction to individuals or small groups
  • Ability to offer advice and work closely with all age groups
  • Answer questions related to basic and some advanced technology
  • Knowledge of related makerspace activities including, but not limited to: sewing, robotics, coding, video
  • Work both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations  
  • Basic knowledge of technology, library systems and databases, and STEM services preferred
