LS&S is seeking an energetic and motivated full-time Library Associate 3 - Youth Services Specialist for the Poinciana Branch Library of the Osceola Library System. 

This is a perfect position for someone with an education or library background who is looking for new and innovative ways to encourage literacy, critical thinking, tech skills and imagination in our youngest patrons. The successful candidate will possess a knowledge of children’s literature, a love of reading and learning to share with children and their families; interest in STEAM concepts with good tech skills, along with a commitment to enhancing literacy of all kinds.   Excellent customer service and teamwork skills are a must!


  • An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.  
  • Successfully deliver creative, innovative, and engaging programs and services with enthusiasm and confidence to our young patrons along with parents, teachers, and caregivers as created by the Youth Services Librarians
  • Prepare Branch programming to include regular storytimes, afterschool programs for elementary and middle school students, events and classes for teens, and outreach programs and tours to schools and community organizations
  • Join with schools, organizations, and partner agencies to promote library events to the public, helping to create life-long library patrons
  • Contribute to the youth team by supporting system-wide events, attending meetings and offering support
  • Develop and nurture community and educational relationships
  • Support a successful Summer Learning Program
  • Participate and represent the Library in community partnerships and innovative service opportunities
  • Document statistics and prepare reports about youth programming at the assigned branch
  • Recommend reading and learning materials to children, parents, and caregivers
  • Assist with daily library operations and support all Library goals and initiatives
  • Assist with library opening and closing procedures
  • Inform library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforce those rules when appropriate
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies)
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
  • Other duties as assigned


An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, Museum Studies or similar disciplines preferred; will accept a combination of education and experience
  • Three years library experience preferred
  • One year supervisory experience preferred
  • Self starter, self motivated, requiring little supervision
  • Experience working with children of various ages
  • Proficiency with library systems and databases
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Multilingual speaking is a plus, Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
  • A high degree of proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint; familiarity with the Internet, coding, and various electronic resources and devices is desired
  • Excellent customer service skills
