Florida State University (FSU) Libraries invites applications for the position of Digital Services Librarian. Reporting to the Repository Developer in the Technology & Digital Scholarship Division, this position will primarily focus on providing key support and extension services for Diginole, FSU’s institutional repository which houses over 80,000 titles (over 34 TB of digitized and born-digital material) in FSU’s Digital Library and Research Repository. Additionally, the position will work in collaboration with technical and curatorial staff on the maintenance and development of other digital preservation and exhibition systems as needed and assigned. The Digital Services Librarian will work as part of an interdepartmental team between Technology & Digital Scholarship and Special Collections & Archives, focusing on the regular upkeep and expansion of various digital platforms which provide access to FSU’s growing body of cultural heritage collections and scholarly outputs.

Supports the development, maintenance, and expansion of a variety of digital curation systems and environments including Diginole (Islandora) and Archivematica

Collaborates with the Digital Archivist, Repository Manager, Scholarly Communications Librarian, and staff in the Technology & Digital Scholarship Division to collaboratively problem-solve and respond to the needs of the FSU community

Leads and performs functionality and quality-control testing on new systems and developing open-source tools

Assesses, enhances, and implements new library technologies in collaboration with stakeholders across the organization



Master’s degree in Library & Information Science, other relevant degree, or comparable professional experience

Experience with digital asset management and digital preservation systems/platforms

Experience working with a wide variety of born-digital and traditional media (text, still image, moving-image, audio, datasets, etc.) in the context of cultural heritage preservation, academic libraries, or other relevant discipline(s)

Technical knowledge of how digital assets are constructed and composed, including practical experience with codecs and containers

Knowledge and experience working in HTML

Knowledge of web-based accessibility standards and best practices

Experience creating and managing library records using metadata standards (MARC, MODS, Dublin Core, METS, etc)

Experience working with Linux/UNIX operating systems

Experience working with virtual machines for testing and development of various technologies

Ability to write documentation and communicate effectively in a team environment

Successful candidates will be curious, technically adept, and open to working in a highly collaborative environment. The ability to explore and learn new and emerging technologies will be central to this position. Successful candidates will also proactively integrate considerations of diversity, equity, and inclusion into their work with library technology, resources, and services.
