 Job Description Summary

Under the general supervision of the Library Director, this position will provide specialized technical support to the Cataloging Staff and Collections Development Librarian in order to acquire and maintain Cannon Memorial Library resources.


  • Processes acquisition orders in all formats, except for serials.
  • Search WorldCat Local to determine whether Cannon Memorial Library already owns requested materials before placing an ILL request in the ILL system.
  • Provide support services in locating articles and books not in the collection, based on Inter Library Loan request information.
  • Consult with faculty librarians when unable to locate an item.
  • Maintain up-to-date information concerning requests, notifying students and faculty when requested materials have been ordered from other institutions, shipped, and available for pickup as needed.
  • Processes and sends books and articles to Saint Leo University students and faculty using email, U.S. mail, UPS, fax, etc.
  • Provide e-reserve services for Saint Leo University Faculty at all locations as requested
  • Supervise FWS undergraduate students when performing circulation or technical services functions, including checking quality of work, reporting absences and tardiness to the staff coordinator, assisting with training, and hiring of students.
  • Performs circulation desk-related tasks on an as-needed basis


  • Provide back-up assistance for Circulation Department as requested
  • Participate in University functions, committees, etc., as appropriate
  • Perform duties as assigned by Technical Services Librarian and Library Director, which are within the scope of the criteria and educational requirements for this position
  • Assisting the serial librarian with serial check-ins on an as needed basis
  • Assisting with the delivery and picking up of large quantities of mail and packages using a golf cart
  • Assisting with the intake and processing of donated materials as needed
  • Opening or closing the building at a fixed time each day

  • Strong customer service orientation, with an emphasis on order fulfillment and customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of supervisory best practices in a library or retail environment
  • Ability to work closely with others, especially undergraduate students
  • Knowledge of a wide range of print, electronic, and Internet-based reference tools
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Computer application skills using Microsoft Office, LibAnswers, and other library-related software
  • Knowledge  of OCLC ILL software
  • Ability to work with numbers
  • Ability to work in a complex, team-based environment and with a diverse user group
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects independently while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to learn new software and programs
  • Ability to reliably adhere to a schedule


  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, Associate’s degree is a minimum
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to pay attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to use current software programs, to access and effectively use the Internet, and to perform data entry tasks in an online environment
  • 2 years' work experience in ILL in an academic or public library or business office preferred
