Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Public Services Manager manages the daily operations of a public service, such as Youth Services.  It is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, producing, supervising and evaluating the work and staff assigned to a functional area of library operation, including reviewing budgets, collections, graphics and marketing, strategic plans, grants, partnerships and outreach efforts associated with these areas. 

The Youth Services Manager will supervise a team of Librarians and Specialists committed to serving children 0-17, families, parents and caregivers with outstanding and innovative events, programs, services, partnerships and community connections. The Youth Services Manager will develop an understanding of community needs and interests to inform the direction and content of programs and services that serve our youngest patrons.  The Youth Services Manager is an important part of the administrative team. This position is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and organized librarian who is a natural leader and is interested in making a move to management. 

Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the creation and delivery of innovative and exciting classes, events and programs
  • Discover and pursue opportunities to provide grants, partnerships and outreach prospects for public services
  • Partner with Graphics Team and Management to market and promote public services
  • Hire, supervise, guide and train assigned work teams toward success
  • Participate in library leadership for strategic planning and  goal and initiative implementation
  • Collaborate with Zone Managers and Branch Managers to ensure community and stake-holder support 
  • Support public services directly through assisting on the front-lines whenever needed
  • Provide analytical and statistical reporting for Library Administration, County or LS&S 
  • Represent the Library System at meetings, conferences, conventions and workshops 
  • Provide input for Collection Development, Library Guidelines and Technology

  • BA/BS required; MLS preferred
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • 2 + experience creating and delivering public services in a library setting
  • Great organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings
  • Excellent knowledge of Library principles and practices
  • Dedication to mentoring and developing staff toward success
  • Knowledge of trends in Library technology and resources, including ILS, MS Office, tablets, STEAM resources, early literacy, databases, and computers
  • Proven success in team work including motivating, training, and leading teams Must commit to Library contributions to Osceola County Emergency Management  

Essential Physical Abilities:
Accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours at a time
  • Ability to lift, push or pull items up to 25lbs
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and turn
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to communicate well with staff and customers.
  • Sufficient vision to review a wide variety of Library materials, written correspondence, reports and related materials in both electronic and hard copy form.
