The incumbent will administer library and perform related library services. Work in a civil inpatient mental health library setting. Tasks are varied selecting, acquiring, cataloguing, classifying, circulating, and maintaining library materials; and furnishing reference, bibliographical, and readers' advisory services. May perform in-depth, strategic research, and synthesize, analyze, edit, and filter information. May set up or work with databases and information systems to catalogue and access information.



1) Search standard reference materials, including on-line sources and the Internet, in order to answer patrons' reference questions.

2) Analyze patrons' requests to determine needed information, and assist in furnishing or locating that information.

3) Teach library patrons to search for information using databases.

4) Keep records of circulation and materials.

5) Supervise budgeting, planning, and personnel (volunteers, light duty workers and staff assigned to library for a few hours at a time) activities.

6) Check books in and out of the library.

7) Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies to residents and staff.

8) Review and evaluate resource material, such as book reviews and catalogs, in order to select and order print, audiovisual, and electronic resources.

9) Code, classify, and catalog books, publications, films, audiovisual aids, and other library materials based on subject matter or standard library classification systems.

10) Direct and train assigned library helpers in duties such as receiving,     shelving, researching, cataloging, and equipment use.

11) Respond to customer complaints, taking action as necessary.

12) Organize collections of books, publications, documents, audiovisual aids, and other reference materials for convenient access.

13) Develop library policies and procedures.

15) Evaluate materials to determine outdated or unused items to be discarded.

16) Develop information access aids such as indexes and annotated bibliographies, web pages, electronic pathfinders, and on-line tutorials.

17) Plan and deliver client-centered programs and services such as special services for corporate clients, storytelling for children, newsletters, or programs for special groups.

18) Compile lists of books, periodicals, articles, and audiovisual materials on particular subjects.

19) Arrange for interlibrary loans of materials not available in a FSH Library Services.

20) Assemble and arrange display materials.

21) Receive donations; sort into groups to be inputted into library and those to give to Rehab staff throughout FSH to be used by residents in the unit.

22) Compile lists of overdue materials, and notify borrowers that their materials are overdue.

23) Design information storage and retrieval systems, and develop procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying information.

24) Develop and index databases that provide information for library users.

25) Negotiate contracts for library services, materials, and equipment.

26) Provide input into the planning of library moves.

27) Collect and organize books, pamphlets, manuscripts, and other materials in specific fields, such as department specific books, Florida, or mental health.

28) Plan and participate in Book sales with monies benefiting the library through Resident Trust. 


A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in library science from a library school program accredited by the American Library Association and one year of professional library experience.
