Description:

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic team player - bring your Technical Services and put them to good use! You will provide specialized technical support to the Cataloging Staff and Collections Development Librarian in order to acquire and maintain Cannon Memorial Library resources using best practices in Technical Services and copy cataloging. This position also opens the library (7AM) three-five days per week, including Saturdays, reporting any needed maintenance or issues as the morning walkthrough is completed. The Technical Services Assistant assists with the circulation department needs as well, greeting patrons who enter the building, checking items in and out, checking IDs and making sure visitors without an ID for the door gate sign in. This position also assists the serials librarian with checking in serials, collecting the mail from the mail room, and other clerical tasks on an as-needed basis. In the absence of the ILL assistant, this position also fulfils Inter-Library Loan requests as a cross trained staff person. This position also assists with inventory, shifting of collections as needed, and other special projects. 

Processes acquisition orders in all formats, except for serials by:
 Searching WorldCat Local to determine whether Cannon Memorial Library already owns or has requested monographic materials
 Update bibliographic holdings records under the direction of the Technical Services Librarian/Acquisitions Librarian, and perform copy cataloging.
 Receive library resources in all formats, except journals/serials
 Receive and inspect library acquisitions upon arrival, notify the Acquisitions librarian of any discrepancies, and under the direction of the Acquisitions librarian, contact vendors about problems as necessary
 Prepare new library materials for Cannon Memorial Library collections. Affix barcode, property stamp, security tag(s), and spine label. At times may place book jackets on books
 Maintain monthly statistics of bibliographic records updated or added, provide report to Acquisitions Librarian
 Notify faculty of availability of items they have requested
 Manage standing orders at the direction of the Collection Development Librarian
 Assist the Circulation staff with Inventory, loss prevention, and collection shifts, etc.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND TASKS:
 Receive and distribute CHOICE review cards to appropriate faculty
 Provide assistance for Circulation Department as requested
 Monitor front door gate, requesting anyone without an ID to sign guest register
 Delivering and picking up large quantities of mail and packages using a golf cart
 Intake and processing of donated materials
 Minor office repairs as needed
 Opening or closing the building at a fixed time each day, including Saturdays
 In the absence of the ILL Assistant, this position is cross-trained to fulfill ILL requests

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, Associate’s degree is a minimum
  • Two (2) years' work experience in a public or academic library technical services department strongly preferred, or business office preferred
  • Some experience repairing books is helpful
