The Florida State University seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and innovative law librarian to serve as a Research & Instruction Librarian. This position is responsible for providing research and reference support to our faculty and students and teaching legal research in a variety of settings. This librarian will be part of a highly collaborative, forward-thinking library that is a valued contributor to the College of Law’s mission. The ideal candidate will have experience working with faculty, students, and/or attorneys in a challenging, service-oriented environment, experience in research instruction, have excellent communication skills, and thrive in a team environment. This is an entry-level (0-2 years' experience) position and Spring 2022 graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Supports faculty and student research and scholarship; provides in-depth research assistance at the reference desk, via email, and in-person consultations.
  • Participates in the legal research curriculum. Provides instruction via workshops, guest lectures, and for-credit upper-level research courses. Delivers instruction in a variety of formats, including fully online, hybrid or blended, and face-to-face instruction.
  • Prepares and maintains research guides, specialized course resources, and research resources for other law school departments.
  • Contributes to the College of Law and the profession through substantive involvement in committee work, research, publishing, and/or participation in professional organizations.
  • Represents the Research Center on various college, campus, and library system committees and at meetings and other functions. Facilitates collaborative relationships within the College of Law and with a variety campus partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary & Benefits:

  • This is a full-time, 12-month specialized faculty appointment. Annual salary: $55,000.

  • J.D. degree and M.L.S. (or equivalent) degree from accredited institutions. Substantial experience as a professional librarian consistent with university guidelines may be substituted in lieu of one of the degrees.
  • Proficiency in legal research and information technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • An aptitude for and interest in project planning and management, as well as excellent organizational, time-management, and analytical skills.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Ability to meet the Research Center's requirement for scholarship, service, and leadership.

This position requires the successful completion of a criminal history background check.
