The Hunt Library at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, invites applications for the position of Cataloging and Metadata Librarian. This non-tenure track staff position is responsible for cataloging library materials and holds primary responsibility for institutional repository metadata and additional metadata projects. 


Responsibilities include:

  • Creating original cataloging records and editing copy cataloging records for physical and electronic library materials.
  • Performing original and complex copy cataloging for serial publications in any format.
  • Maintaining the library’s bibliographic database to ensure accurate information is available in Discovery, which includes contributing to authority work on Alma records. 
  • Keeping current with national cataloging standards and Alma changes and how they relate to Discovery. 
  • Contributing documentation for local practices and procedures.
  • Participating in institutional repository activities within the library and across the campus. 
  • Coordinating tasks related to the institutional repository and Archives such as local authority control and cross-platform data exchange. 
  • Hiring, training, and supervising student assistants.
  • Serving on library and campus committees.
  • Representing the library at professional library and/or aviation industry-related conferences and seminars. 


Required qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science or information science
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of nationally-accepted standards used in cataloging
  • Thorough knowledge of OCLC
  • Experience with a Library Systems cataloging module
  • Practical knowledge of RDA, LC subject headings and classification schedules and other library standards
  • Analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of information systems
  • Experience in planning and implementing metadata projects; metadata schema adaptation; and developing local standards, policies and procedures. 


 Preferred qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of Ex Libris’s Alma, Classification Web, Cataloger’s Desktop, Library of Congress Authorities, RDA Toolkit, Worldcat, and bepress Digital Commons.
