Senior Librarian
Exempt – Grade 33
Definition: Under general supervision, is responsible for administrative, supervisory and direct
service functions of a major section of the City library, i.e., Circulation, Adult Services and
Youth Services.

Tasks:
Plans, implements, and evaluates library services of the assigned section; recommends and takes
appropriate action. Actively participates in fulfilling library-wide goals and implementing
policies. Interprets goals and policies to subordinate staff and to patrons and
individuals outside of the library. Works with library administration and section staff to
develop and coordinate community partnerships for the assigned service section.
Participates in the selection and training of subordinate staff and professionals and evaluates
their performance. Coordinates staff schedule and payroll records for the assigned section.
Supplies budgetary information and monitors expenditures regarding section. Resolves
conflicts with patrons and the general public. Monitors maintenance and other section needs and
works with Library administration to achieve needed repairs and improvements. Prepares
reports and publications. Represents the Library at meetings, conferences, presentations
and workshops. Performs related work as required.

Skill in coordinating service efforts and personnel assignments to meet a variety of user needs.
Skill in staff supervision and guiding staff in identifying priorities, best practices, etc.
Skill in using technology for enhanced staff efficiency as well as user education and convenience.
Physical Requirements: Work involves frequent sitting and standing; moderate walking,
reaching, bending, stretching, listening, speaking and movement of objects weighing up to 50
pounds. Work requires regular attendance at the job site.

Qualifications: Requires a Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science.
Applicants should demonstrate progressive growth and increased responsibility in their work
experience, with five (5) years’ of Masters-level experience in the advertised service area
plus two (2) years’ in a lead or supervisory capacity. Employees are required to pass
the National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses identified for their position
and listed in the most recent version of the NIMS Training Guide within one (1) year of placement
into this position. Requires a valid Florida driver license.
